International piano virtuoso Julian Gargiulo has a totally unconventional approach to a classical piano concert, reminiscent of Victor Borge.

It's not uncommon to find Julian mingling with the audience prior to his performance before leaping on stage in a black leather jacket to begin ths show. His wit and his effortless ability to create a relationship with the audience is joyful and masterful.

“Audiences do revel in the young Italian-American artist’s dazzling technique and white-hot interpretations of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Liszt. But spectators may be initially taken aback when the lean Julian Gargiulo comes striding down the aisle, dark curls bouncing, dressed in black jeans and a leather jacket, pausing to chat with fans along the way, before leaping onto the stage to work his magic on the Steinway grand. Surely, this is a new form of classical recital, one in which Gargiulo not only talks to the crowd about the music, but also regales them with his own brand of humour and charm.”

Julian's playing is mesmerising. He performs classics and originals. Julian will perform a piece and then discusses it with the audience. He’s hilarious, quick witted and clever as he shares stories about his life, his playing and his family. The video montage of him and his daughter as a newborn, Nikita, was a winner. Hard not to warm to that!

“In the beginning my talking was primarily educational, but as time went on, my talking became more personal, with stories about my life and what inspired my own compositions. It grew into a free-formconversation with humour as the key ingredient. I have always loved to make people laugh. This is not scripted. It is who I am. I absolutely love Jerry Seinfeld and Woody Allen!” he chuckles. And, indeed, these beloved comedians are sometimes invoked in describing Gargiulo’s repartee.” - FANFAREMAG.com

THE CRITICS SAID...

“Saturday Night Live...with a piano” - ST.JOHN TIMES USVI

"Expect to revise any preconceived notions you have about classical music concerts” - HUFFINGTON POST

"...a marvellous non-stop flow of pure Woody Allen-ish wit.” - KATHIMERINI

“He's the only classical musician I know who could truly be regarded as a rock star as well. One of the most enjoyable concerts I have ever been to. Julian is warm, witty and he can play the piano pretty damn well too. He had us all in the palm of his hand. He's the sort of performer who could change a young person’s life and inspire them to start on the path to a career in music. He makes it look fun.”
- PHIL BROWN, THE COURIER MAIL 2015
